We are looking for a new youth representative to join the Yachad Board as a trustee of our charity to help oversee the governance of the organisation and shape its strategy and future direction. We need someone that passionately believes that young people in the British Jewish community have a role to play in influencing how the community engages with Israel and responds to the conflict.
Your role will be to:
- encourage the active engagement, involvement and participation of students and young people with the objectives of Yachad;
- keep up to date on matters in the wider world of students and young people which might affect, or have an impact on, the organisation;
- keep the rest of the Board informed and up to date on matters described above; and
- work closely with the Yachad staff, in particular the Youth and Student Outreach Worker, to oversee the youth and student strategy of the organisation.
Commitment:
- Attending four ordinary Board meetings per year at quarterly intervals (taking place in person), as well as 1 away day per year that normally takes place on a Sunday
- To be involved in (at least) one organisational project on an annual basis, supporting the Yachad youth and student worker in his or her work.
Required skills and experience:
- Experience in youth settings in the community as either:
o a current or recently graduated (in the last 12 months) youth movement member and/or
involved student on campus; or
o someone who is a current staff member (or has recently been in the last 12 months) working in youth provision in the Jewish community, for example as a youth movement worker or sabbatical officer - Good understanding of issues related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict
- Commitment to the organisation’s aims and objectives
- Clear understanding of Yachad’s theory of change
- Good understanding of the British Jewish community
- Competent public speaking skills
- Ability to be available in London for board meetings and to travel to London to be available if required
