Yachad: New Israeli settlement building in Hebron “reckless”

16/10/2017, London: Yachad, the British Jewish pro-Israel, pro-peace group, has condemned the Israeli government’s decision to approve new building permits for Israeli settlers in the West Bank city of Hebron today. The 31 housing units approved by the IDF Civil Administration represent the first new building permits issued to Israeli settlers in Hebron in 15 years.
A Yachad spokesperson said:
“This reckless decision flies in the face of common sense, international law and Israel’s …

Terrorist Attack in Har Adar, 26 September 2017

We wake up this morning to the awful news that three Israelis have been killed and one injured in a shooting attack at the settlement of Har Adar, outside Jerusalem. Our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
This attack should be condemned by all who seek peace and a political resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. There can be no justification for this violence. Every death in the face of conflict and terror is a tragedy, and we hope that leaders on both sides take the …

Statement on the 50th anniversary of the 6 Day War

In June 1967, Jewish communities around the world rallied behind Israel in a time of dire need, as the country was threatened with annihilation only 19 years after its founding. Israel’s victory in the Six Day War ensured Israel’s survival, and granted Jewish people access to some of our holiest places for the first time since 1948. June 2017 marks 50 years since that fateful victory.
However, this anniversary also means something quite different. June 2017 signals 50 years of Israeli …

Jerusalem Day 2017

Today is Yom Yerushalayim – Jerusalem Day – marking fifty years since the reunification of Jerusalem in the Six Day War. Today we’re grateful for the return of Jewish life and prayer to the Old City, to the Kotel and some of our holiest sites. But Jerusalem is not united, and Yom Yerushalayim is not a simple celebration of our people’s return to our holy places.
This afternoon, young Jewish Israelis have been dancing through the streets of the Muslim Quarter of the Old City in the March …

Middle East Peace Process Inquiry Evidence

In January 2017, the Foreign Affairs Select Committee launched an inquiry into the UK’s policy towards the Middle East Peace Process. Yachad submitted written evidence on the importance of the two-state solution, the UK’s capacity to act, the role of trade and aid, Israeli settlements, and Palestinian incitement. You can read it below or here on the UK Parliament’s website. You can also download a PDF copy here. Written Evidence from Yachad UK (MEP0034)

Yachad’s View on the May 2017 UNESCO Resolution

UNESCO has continued its campaign of politicising religious sites in Israel and the West Bank today. This is unacceptable, but it is important to note that much of the press reporting on the motion and some of the responses of Israeli politicians have been hyperbolic and misleading. This time, UNESCO did not deny Jewish history in Jerusalem, as they did in October last year. Indeed, the motion positively affirms the importance of the Old City of Jerusalem, the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron …

Yom Ha’atzmaut Message: Israel at 69

Today is Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s Independence Day. We’re celebrating tonight with Rona Kenan in concert at JW3, hosted together with New Israel Fund UK.
Yesterday, Israel marked Yom Hazikaron – Israel’s Memorial Day, where the country stops to remember the many thousands of citizens who have been killed in wars and terror attacks. On Sunday evening, as Yom Hazikaron came in, we marked the day with a livestreaming of the joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day …

British woman killed in Jerusalem stabbing attack

Yachad’s response to the news that a young British woman was killed in a terrorist attack in Jerusalem:
“We’re shocked and saddened by the news that a young British woman was killed today in a stabbing attack on the light rail in Jerusalem. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family.
There can be no justification for this senseless violence, which should be condemned by all. Concerted action to prevent these ‘lone wolf’ attacks is long …

Pesach 2017

Pesach is a celebration of our freedom from slavery, tyranny and oppression, and the Seder gives us the opportunity to consider what that freedom means. Every year, we read the story of the exodus, and are called to consider ourselves as though we were once slaves in the land of Egypt.
This year, we are approaching the 50th anniversary of the 6-Day War. That means 50 years that the Jewish people have been able to return to pray at the Kotel, the Western Wall in Jerusalem. But it also means 50 …
