The character of Israel as a democratic and Jewish state is enshrined in its Declaration of Independence. The ability to achieve lasting peace in the region is based upon building mutual respect between the different parties of the conflicts; any legislation that sets out to discriminate on the basis of ethnicity or political opinion is not conducive towards a long-term peaceful settlement.

Furthermore, commitment to peace and democracy is as important to Israel’s internal civil society as it is to the parties in the conflict, and consequently Yachad is committed to supporting the growth and development of Israel’s civil society
