Represent Yachad at the Board of Deputies

Yachad is the pro-Israel pro-peace movement of British Jews. Established in May 2011, it has developed into a well-known organisation in the British Jewish community, providing a voice for British Jews who support a two-state solution as the basis for a resolution to the ongoing conflict, and cutting-edge Israel education for the community, both in the UK and on the ground in Israel.

The Yachad team is comprised of four full-time members of staff, as well as a board of eight people. In November 2015, Yachad was voted onto the Board of Deputies, entitling us to one representation within the organisation: one Deputy and one Under 35 Observer.

The Board of Deputies is the democratically elected, representative body of the Jewish community. Every three years member organisations elect one or several representatives (depending on their size) to sit as a deputy. The deputies meet approximately monthly, and most meetings are held in central London.

The next triennial cycle will begin in June 2018, and Yachad is seeking to elect a Deputy and an Under 35 Observer to represent the organisation at the Board of Deputies. The purpose of Yachad being a member organisation at the Board of Deputies is to be part of shaping the public discourse on Israel within the British Jewish community. It is therefore essential that both the deputy and observer can take a pro-active role, be a fluent communicator and be able to regularly attend the meetings of the Board of Deputies. (Note: the role of Deputy and Under 35 Observer are the same, only that an observer may not vote or be elected onto divisions).

The Yachad board may choose to co-opt the elected deputy onto the board of the organisation.
